Planning an Electrical Panel or Service Upgrade

Thursday, October 22, 2026

A panel replacement, a service upgrade and a new circuit are different parts of an electrical project. Adding a heat pump, EV charger or renovation can require these to be considered together. Matrix Mechanical assesses the existing installation and proposed loads before defining the electrical scope.

Describe the reason for the work

  • Identify the equipment you want to add and share its specifications when available.
  • Explain whether you are renovating, replacing aging equipment or asking about a particular electrical problem.
  • Share the service address, drawings, access arrangements and preferred timing.
  • Send accessible photographs of the closed panel and service entrance from a safe position.

Do not remove covers, approach exposed parts or operate damaged equipment to gather information. For a time-sensitive electrical fault, call 506.696.7000. For immediate danger, leave the affected area and contact emergency services from a safe location.

Agree what changes are included

The review considers the panel, service arrangements, proposed equipment and associated circuits. Existing equipment and wiring may remain where appropriate to the agreed work. The quotation should identify the proposed capacity, equipment and circuits, along with any utility, permit or inspection coordination.

Plan access and any interruption

Discuss access to the panel, service entrance and cable routes. Tell us about occupied areas and timing limits for a planned power interruption. Coordinate related heating, charging or renovation work before the electrical scope is settled.

Compare the written scope

  • Panel and service work versus circuit changes, including what remains.
  • Equipment supply, removal, labelling, testing and handover information.
  • Utility, permit and inspection responsibilities and planned interruptions.
  • Opening and repairing finishes, exclusions, applicable warranties and approval of changes.
